Valerie is the main characters of Princess Powder and a minor antagonist in Close Your Eyes.
Appearance[]
Valerie is disfigured, gangly and bald humanoid with a pale complexion. She was left disfigured after Simon gouged out her eyes. She has been depicted as having white hair and blue hair.
Biography[]
Valerie is a strange individual. Despite living in a world of modern advancements, she is situated in a tower and speaks old English, often using words like "thou" over "you".
Her entire situation remains a mystery, such as how and why The King was able to build a giant tower to keep Valerie from meeting Daniel. Even stranger still is why the entire tower is designed as a death trap, seeming even more lethal to Valerie than to Daniel.
Valerie's letters are scattered in many places throughout the Yaiverse, but a scene where a doppelganger comes out and fakes a letter makes it possible that not all letters are real.
Simon at some point came into contact with Valerie, and ended up mutilating her when he began suspecting that she may have been having an affair behind his back.
The current Valerie roams various places presumably to hunt people, though she has only ever been seen hunting Marshmallow Monk (whose connection to her may suggest why she only has been seen pursuing them). It's likely that Valerie hunts and kills people due to being driven insane by Simon after her prolonged torture and ultimate transformation into a monster at his hands, rather than for the reason that The Host and other cosmic beings seek them.
Feast Your Eyes[]
In Act 2 of the game, The Host, playing the role of Marshmallow's father, tells them that their neighbor, a young blue-haired woman, is here to see them. The woman introduces herself as Valerie (after indicating that she and Marshmallow already know each other), and asks if she can go up to Marshmallow's room with them. If they say no, Marshmallow will go back into the house and find their bunny dead, before going to the bathroom and finding Valerie there, who apologizes for "barging in" the house. If they say yes, she follows them into the house and narrates some of their past memories together. Her initially cheery disposition grows more somber and darker with each interaction, and after a strange exchange in their room, Marshmallow confronts her in the downstairs bathroom.
Valerie tells them the story of "the spider and the fly", and of how a young girl who was nothing but kind and wonderful was horrifically abused and tortured by countless people, while others sat back and laughed. Even though they kept using and breaking her, she kept praying for them and asking for forgiveness, which made them hurt her even more. This story eventually transitions to the Girl, who is hateful towards Valerie for her repeated visits where she asks about "the baby".
Later, Simon, appearing as a bloodied monk with bangs covering his eyes, confronts Marshmallow in a closet and reveals that Valerie is their mother. Because she strayed from her faith and had them, Simon is taking her away and tells Marshmallow that he's under orders to leave them alone, but one day will return for them. Marshmallow has one final interaction with Valerie, where she tells them that she's sorry that she was unable to spend her life with them and watch them grow up. She ends their interaction with explaining how she will always love them and be on their side, and believes that they deserve love and happiness.
